Mrs. Howland

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC TEACHER

My name is Mrs. Howland and I am pleased to welcome you to Joyous Sound Music Studio! I am a lifelong musician and have been teaching music for over 15 years. I earned a Bachelors of Music in Music Education from Biola University and a Masters in Music Education from Boston University. I currently hold both California and Washington state teaching certificates in Music. I have experience teaching private lessons on many instruments to students of all ages, including pre-school youth and adults. Additionally, I spent 13 years teaching public school Orchestra and Band classes to students in grades 4-8. I decided to make a slight career change from the public to the private setting in order to spend more time with my pre-school aged child. In my spare time, I enjoy performing on violin with the Gig Harbor Peninsula Civic Orchestra and on flute with the Harbor Winds.

I strongly believe that learning music should be fun and that anyone can be successful in learning a musical instrument with intentional guidance, regular practice and dedication. I am excited to help bring the joy of music to the South Sound through private instrumental music lessons. Whether students are looking for help learning music for a school ensemble, are brand new to an instrument, or want to focus on a specific style or genre of playing, I am committed to using my knowledge and expertise to help students of all ages succeed and enjoy playing an instrument. I am primarily offering lessons on the piano, flute, and strings (violin, beginning viola and cello), although you may contact me to inquire about other instruments of interest.
